~ 4 TIPS FOR CHOOSING YOUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER ~
Written and photographed by Jesús Amaya
Hello Bride, I hope you’re doing beautifully and that your wedding preparations are going wonderfully. I know that choosing your wedding photographer can feel overwhelming. There is so much information out there, one advertisement after another, and everyone seems eager to sell — sometimes making you feel like they only see a price tag instead of a person. Before getting engaged, you probably thought it was simply about getting married and that was it, but nothing could be further from the truth... weddings are an entire world of their own.
Choosing the wrong wedding photographer can negatively impact your entire experience, and NO ONE WANTS THAT. Believe me when I say that you will spend more time with your photographer than with many of your loved ones on that day, so this decision should never be taken lightly.
That’s why I created this guide with 4 essential tips you should follow carefully to make sure you choose, first, a great photographer, and second, the RIGHT ONE for you.
If you’re more of a visual person, you can click HERE to watch the video I prepared for you instead of reading the full article.

~ 1 - LOOK FOR PHOTOGRAPHER PROFILES THAT ALIGN WITH THE STYLE YOU ENVISION FOR YOUR WEDDING DAY ~
There are different "branches" within wedding photography, and every photographer naturally develops their own distinctive style throughout their work.
Some of these include artistic photography, traditional photography, documentary photography, fine art, and editorial photography.
Take a close look at their work and choose the style that best represents who you are as a couple. Love enters through the eyes, and you should fall in love with the way your wedding memories will look and feel.
~ 2 - LOOK FOR A GENUINE PORTFOLIO ~
It’s easy to create two or three beautiful photographs for Instagram. The real CHALLENGE is capturing an entire wedding day with consistency, intention, and a cohesive vision.
Ask your photographer to show you a complete wedding gallery. That is where you will truly see whether their approach aligns with your vision and where you can appreciate how they tell a story from beginning to end. Colors, editing, image selection, and narrative flow are just some of the elements that bring a story to life... five magazine-worthy photographs will never be enough to tell the story of the most important day of your life.
~ 3 - LOOK FOR A PERSONAL CONNECTION WITH YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER ~
It is important that you feel comfortable with the person you are allowing into your inner circle. It doesn’t matter if they are the best photographer in the world if they don’t make you feel comfortable, relaxed, and fully present on such an important day.
They will be responsible for creating your VISUAL LEGACY, the memories that will endure through time. You need to be aligned and looking for the same vision; otherwise, misunderstandings may arise... and what should be the GREATEST DAY of your life could turn into a NIGHTMARE.
That is why it is important to feel comfortable with your photographer from the very first interaction. A video call is often the best way to discover if they are the right fit. Another way to experience your photographer’s approach is by having a Save the Date session before the wedding. This gives you the opportunity to spend time together, understand your personal connection, and see how their work translates into real moments.
~ 4 - READ REVIEWS FROM OTHER COUPLES ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCE WITH THE PHOTOGRAPHER ~
They can have magazine-worthy photographs, be technically skilled, and even say all the right things during a video call.
But they cannot fake HOW THEY MAKE THEIR COUPLES FEEL.
Read carefully the reviews other couples have shared about your photographer, and if you find negative ones... DO NOT IGNORE THEM. Remember that this is one of the most important days of your life, and every decision can directly affect your entire experience and the way you remember your wedding day. Be meticulous when choosing any wedding vendor. It will be YOUR BIG DAY, and every detail deserves careful consideration.

Create a checklist based on these four points for every photographer you consider, and you’ll quickly see how the right choice becomes clearer.
I hope this article has been helpful and, most importantly, that it brings clarity during this important search. Remember that the photographs you receive are NOT only for the newlyweds; they are for your future self 20 years from now, and for the day your children ask you: “What was your wedding day like?”
THAT IS WHY THIS DECISION SHOULD BE MADE CONSCIOUSLY. Sending you both a warm embrace, and I hope every step of your wedding preparations goes beautifully.

The Next Step Is Yours
It's not just about photographs.
It's about what remains long after the day is over.
If the way I tell love stories resonates with you, it would be an honor to be part of one of the most important days of your life.
